about me

My Philosophy

I often face with the question of why not look for a stable and high-paying job with my qualifications. My answer is simply this; there's much more to life than a mere, never-ending materialistic pursue.

I believe in sharing and giving, in their broadest sense, and within my means. It is those moments of sharing what I love and giving what I have that I feel most blessed… like an angel.

To me, life is meaningful because of the infinite learning opportunities, and life is beautiful because of the sincere relationships with people.

My Life in the Arts
I loved music since I was a little girl. Nothing could interest me more than blowing the recorder, singing, and playing the piano. One of my favourite games I played secretly with myself was to pretend that I was some famous conductor, standing on the stage and leading an orchestra! I could still remember there was once I got so engrossed in conducting my imaginary orchestra that I didn't realize my piano teacher stood outside the house for almost an hour, waiting for me to open the door! Of course, I had to face the music for that.

My five years with the Singapore Youth Orchestra had left me the most enriching teenage days. Perhaps I may not be able to play the French horn as well as I wish I could now, but there's two things my teacher, Mr Han had said and I'm glad I still live by them now. Aim high and be discipline towards my aim.

It was a turning point when I had to tell myself that I wouldn't be studying music in the University. I entered the National University of Singapore and studied Philosophy and Theatre Studies instead. I started taking open dance classes in some private dance schools for a year or two and finally came across belly dance in the middle of year 2002. I fell in love with it ever since. I started by learning from videos I got over the Internet, took belly dance classes, and studied under various renowned masters when Claribel brings them in. I have studied with:

Mr Magdy El-Leisy (Germany)
Mr and Mrs Hossam and Serena Ramzy (United Kingdom)
Madam Raqia Hassan (Cairo, Egypt)
Mr Yousry Shariff (New York, USA)
Dr Mo Geddawi (Cairo, Egypt)
Mr Mahmoud Reda (Cairo, Egypt)
Ms Faten Salama (Washington DC)
Ms Jrisi (Australia)

I'm glad to be able to dedicate more of my life to belly dance now that I teach and perform.
